I am personally not a vegetarian. However, while staying with a family for two weeks in South Africa I was introduced to this life style. I must say I was quite amazed at the vast variety of tasty meals that are available. I did find myself having more energy throughout the day.

All bodies are different and react in different ways. You know your body better than anyone and if you feel that something is wrong, you should consult your doctor.

Great article. As of December 1 2011 I will have been a vegetarian (pescatarian to be exact) for 1 month. I do feel much healthier (focused energetic better skin), and even though I'm not craving meat (I was a huge meat eater before), last week I went through a period of headaches/lack of sleep. This problem has now subsided however this week my bowels are playing up a little bit. I've done a lot of research so I am maintaining a balanced diet as much as I can (including seafood), however I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced similar symptons when they initially gave up meat? I'm hoping this is just my body adjusting and/or toxins leaving my body. cheers

Kyle, always seek specific medical advice from your doctor. I am not aware of any problems. And as with anything else, who could say what actually caused a problem?

I have been a vegetarian for two and a half years and have definately experienced a variety of benefits, however, I was wondering if there was any long term negetive side effect. my mom, though supportive, will sometimes think that there may be some problems, so i want to make sure this is the correct lifestyle choice for me

Well I don't believe the protein myth. But B12 deficiency is also something to consider when on a purely vegetarian diet. It can cause severe peripheral neuropathy and other neurological symptoms.
