This looks amazing! Thank you for posting this! I may try this one day soon! One suggestion, for cooking tofu, I find the best way to use it, is to freeze it, and then thaw it out, squeeze out the water, cut it up into relatively thin slices. Cook it dry in a pan, and squeeze out as much water, and then use it. After all that the tofu is primed to absorb the flavours of the dish! You can google it to see a more detailed version online somewhere, it is where I got it.

ahhhh...the presentation in the coconut shell was a wonderful idea. We have a lot of coconut shells lying around (we are in Kerala) and we were just wondering what to do with it........so, we decided to make so serving bowls just like the one u used. and thank you so much for this Thai series. U know it is more similar to the coastal cuisine of kerala and so, much easy to adapt to our cooking styles.... Thanks ladies and keep up the good work...

may be you should have mentioned the benefits of using turmeric(cancer fighting property) ginger(helps with digestion) etc in the vedio,so how the indian cooking would stand out even from a health option point of view,as food network now only has the same old stuff.this might have just given you an "umph" compared to the competition.just a thought.

"zapiekanka" is singular form, "zapiekanki" plural :) original zapiekanka is fried mushrooms (cold) mixed in food processor with FRESH (!!) white onion (not prefried) and chesse + salt & pepper. don't mix it to puree - just to join the ingrediens and stop when the texture is grainy. then you coat the french baguette with mushroom/onion/cheesy paste and bake it for a few minutes. When it's ready you put fresh veggies on top (tomatos, cucumber, lettuce, pickles ect.) + ketchup & mayo. xoxo

it's not polish with all those spices and tomato sauce, the onion and mushroom should be seasoned with pepper and salt in a traditional way, and it's a french baguette that give all the taste, u can't replace it with a spongy bread even if u bake it to make it crunchy coz it taste different. Anyway I like it as a variation of the traditional recipe, it's just not polish anymore, thx for all amazing receipes!

Those look soooo goood. I think I may put that in this weeks dinner menu. I tend to cheat with the gooey things and use a glove to mix and form ball/patties. I hate getting it under my nails. (I know OCD) I also have different size scoops for making meatballs with.

Sooo Easy!!! Soooooo Elegant!!!!! My family was blown away. I substituted light philadelphia cream cheese and light sour cream-the result was so light and fluffy. If one person grinds the cardamom seeds with a pestle, and one person slices the mango you can throw this together in 5 minutes. We added this to our rotation of summer fruit desserts. I am making this for a Bollywood Birthday party for my daughter. HINT: there is no substitute for fresh ground cardamom!!!

@lifoc This is a quick version of shrikhand. For the original method, just hang yogurt in a cheese or muslin cloth for 4-6 hours. The yogurt will become very thick (like the cream cheese we are using). Then, proceed with the rest of the steps. Cream cheese is fairly inexpensive (about $1 to $1.50 for an 8 ounce bar). It does have some fat but this is not a dessert you eat a whole lot of. :)

I tried this recipe today and it is indeed shrikhand, infact better then the old style ( by hanging yogurt in cloth overnight, making maska and all that). My kids loved it. Although I've enjoyed Shrikhand before, either store bought or at a restaurant I've never attempted to make it myself. So, my question is this: Since I'm not all that familiar with grades of saffron, just know it's usually fairly pricey, do you have any suggestions for what to look for, or which brand to buy for a recipe like this? I think it works much better when you tie up the sour cream in a cheese cloth and hang it overnight such that the water from the sour cream is drained. Otherwise, it tends to excrete water when you just leave it in the fridge...Just a thought :)

@Thestargazer000 U can buy jaggery from any Indian or Sri Lankan spice shop or Indonesian made Palm jaggery are available in any Chinese grocery shop..Some people it call Palm Sugar..small cylindrical shape and it's around 1.5" in diameter and 5" long...it's fairly cheap stuff.

@faylinameir Jaggery is made of the products of both sugarcane and the sap of the coconut flower(before it opens from the hard cover...When u tap the flower, juice will come out will be collected toa earthnware pot hang on the flower..it's a long process. You should try and drink Coconut toddy(before they make jaggery)..u will be heaven after that...so sweet and aromatic..really good taste..if u keep it long time, it will turns to Vinegar.

@AECSRQ The fact that sugar is a problem in modern food industry does not mean that it is toxic. Jaggery is also sweet and if misused it will be as bad as refined sugar. The definiton of toxicity is linked to intake (dose dependency). I agree with you that it's not good to take too much sugar, but choosing one type over the other has more to do with flavour than health issues.

Candida, Cancer, Diabetes, & Obesity studies indicate you are dead wrong. I suggest following the Indian recipe with jaggery. India has a larger population with a far lower incidence of dietary disease.

The fat inhibits the activity of the yeast. It does rise, of course, but it takes longer. Making pizza regularly, I have neverp ut milk or milk powder before. A few easier ways are: 1) When you have finished peeling the skin of the onion, cut it in half and soak in water for about 5 seconds. This will dissolve the fumes and no more tears!! 2) Always keep the root on till the end. The minute you remove the roots, the fumes rise up and irritate your eyes! Both ways work, I've been using both methods and they aren't too laborious either! No more tears!! :D

If you don't wear glasses just reach for your sunglasses when cutting onions. :) Here's a tip: To keep potatoes longer, put an apple in with them and keep them in the bag. The onion fumes make potatoes sprout but apple fumes prevent them from sprouting. I've done this for years. To for keeping celery and carrots: Wash them and keep them in a bowl of water in the refrigerator. Change the water every other day. They'll keep for two weeks.

Actually....onions do not affect the eye directly. It is the nose that makes the eyes water. If you breathe through your mouth instead of your nose when cutting onion, you will not tear.

i always keep the onions and potatoes separated...the potatoes i store in a cool dry place like a cabinet and they last so much longer..no crazy buds grow on them and they stay quite firm...just don't forget them after 2mos or so they do go bad and stink...haa haaa, can u tell i have done that b4!

@rlal85 We have never seen curry leaf seeds. Most curry plants will give off "babies" and you just have to yank them out and re-pot them to make a new plant. Try to find a local person (friend) who will give you a "baby" plant.

Work from the smaller, rounded side toward the sliced edge. Then do the same with the remaining 1/2. This way the rounded edge gets cut as nicely as the sliced side (especially with onions!).

Haha, you cheaters. At 6:13 the couscous hasn't been chilled, because the couscous didn't move :P Couldn't wait to taste test huh ;) Looking great! I was eating some plain couscous 2 days ago and I wish I knew about how to make it into something more interesting back then. PS. It's pretty awesome when you both wear amazing dresses! Unless it's a very splattery recipe (ruining clothes), it gives off a really homey feel because people usually don't change clothes when cooking (on the same day)

Thanks very much. This is something that makes dosa eating healthier, although there is a lot of preliminary stuff that needs to be done! In california one can get Shasta's Dosa batter with which one can make Dosas,Uttapasand Idlis as well. I am going to try and modify that batter by adding oats into it and try it out. Thanks Anyways!

Guys, thank you for great tips as always! One comment about your flowers in the background: they look at little disorderly. I'd cut them much shorter, so that the buds are one inch above the vase at most, especially if you put more flowers in it, that way the whole composition will look right in place. Also try to use yellow and/or red flowers to offset the blue color of the vase :)

I agree this is pretty pointless-but they forgot to mention that once the original seal is broken, it's best for dry items and things you'll use up fairly fast-unless you're going to re-seal them. I bought a large plastic jug of honey that was on sale-but since I don't like storing in plastic, I have it in a large peanut butter glass jar. Also good for those small, floppy bags of beans & barley, etc. Goo-Gone is great for getting off the labels.

I really like this dish with cabbage sambharo. That might sound odd to some people but I find that the flavours go nicely together. What's funny is that it took me a long time to warm up to Gujarati food but I now find it to be absolutely addictive. I think part of it is the lemon juice and yogurt along with green chili peppers (the tangy sourness combined with the spicy heat makes Gujarati food really distinctive). Nice job with this vid.

Another tip...If the dish type allows it, try using raw grated potato (peel the potato first) - it cooks down to a puree in about 4-5 minutes, maybe less. As it does thicken the dish quite a bit (it almost acts a bit like flour) be prepared to add a bit more water. Anyway, that'll help reduce the saltiness even further. In thinner dishes, I've used tomatoes. Throw out a cup of the too-salty gravy (boo hoo!) and add in fresh ground tomatoes, adding additional spices if necessary.

Lemon juice is a SUBSTITUTE for salt. Great for people who need low sodium but need that "salt" element. An addition to what the ladies said, if its reeeally salty but already cooked-throw in the potato raw but leave in large chunks. Fish em out, dice em up, fry and enjoy. I made this for Mother's Day! Only I wanted to try to make my first vegan cake with this recipe. I used vanilla soy yogurt (so I skipped vanilla in the recipe), and used the flax egg substitute suggested here. For the cream cheese I used tofutti cream cheese and it wasn't as good as real but it was fine. It did need more sugar, maybe the tofutti cream cheese was more moist. All in all I am THRILLED that I tried to make a vegan cake, it can be done and it was delicious! Thanks!

@darkroge : It helps the baking soda react and creates moisture. You really can't taste the yogurt. But if you are looking for a substitute, try some apple sauce with a squeeze of lime, it should work (personally have never used that method). Hope that helps!

looks great. us vegans can use egg subsitute that is sold in stores.I just became vegan a while ago so i never bought it as yet.thanks for the idea on how to preserve patty in freezzer !
