I'm curious: is the consistency of this sweet kind of chewy? I'm just wondering because when I was smaller, my mother had an Indian friend who would bring a treat that looked like this (i guess) but she never asked the name of it. To this day, I loved eating them and that's why I'd like to know if this is it.

@sameena777 We have not tried it with regular sugar, but powdered (confectioner's) sugar has added corn starch to it so the texture you get may be different than powdering the sugar yourself at home.

i like most of your recipe and tried many. It turned out great. Just a quick note to others asking about silver Varak. I prefer not to use those foils. (Just a word of caution, it is used for decoration only and not required. It is silver metal which is kept between animal skin and beaten. The foil may contain animal skin and sometimes it is not even silver. )

Yes, the powdered sugar we use is sometimes called icing sugar. It is different than regular sugar that has been ground. Powdered (or Icing) sugar has corn starch mixed in it.

It's called Varak. It is real silver that has been pounded down to extremely thin sheets. Some Indian grocery stores may carry it. We got our's from India.
