Tinned vegetables have been shown to contain much lower nutrient levels than their frozen equivalents, use good quality frozen peas or if you grew them yourself and picked them within 2hrs fresh peas. Another tip, if you don't want the garlic breath remove the greenish centre/core of the garlic clove. Hell roast the garlic and add some mint to the the peas also, we are cooking right?

I use the oily toor dal too. Bhavna what size is your pressure cooker? Was just wondering? I store my cilantro in a muslin cloth too( I got it from Joanne Fabrics) and store in a steel container with the holes in, also my green chiles that I don't grind I store it the same way. Hi I keep learning new recipes all the time. I just need to eat once in the restaurant and within a week, I make perfact recipe by hook or by cook...funny..haa!! For cilantro, try using muslin cloth instead of paper towel. Use the bag with holes in it. My cilantro stays good all the time, hardly gets spoiled. Thanx

Hi Yes, as I written down, I sometimes use combination of both red and green chili or the othe time, just one of those. Also I add mustard and cumin only but my mohter-in-law adds only mustard and fenugreek seeds...so as I said many variations to this dal...But it still taste good!! And I also keep changing ingredients for even my daily gujarati food. Keep enjoying!!

Thank you very much for the recipe. I have a doubt- You have listed cumin and green chillies, but you didn't add in the actual recipe. Perhaps you might have substituted fenugreek(not listed) for cumin and red chilli powder for green chillie paste. right??

Hello Ladies...receipe is great considering the mix of flovours...But just couple of things...lasagna is all abt generous fillings....i guess instead of just filling in lines it wud have been better its filled fully, and the noodles have to over lap each other while , and the noodles are certainly over cooked as i can see in the video...the cardinal rule for lasagna noodles is never boil them turn of the heat and just place them in already boiled water....but u r mix of ricotto cheese was gud..

You can choose to add onions if you like. We like to have some variation in our food so we left them out. If you want to have some gravy, you can cook it less and maybe mash one of the small potatoes and add it back in. It will act as a thickening agent without changing the flavor of the dish.

Hi, I love your show, and I will most definitely will make this as soon as I can it looks delicious. I have to ask though can I make this with little fingerling or baby Yukon gold potatoes? also not to sound mean but I think star anise and anise seed are two different things. I only say this because I use anise seed in Mexican and south American cooking at home and it actually looks like little seeds"Pimpinella anisum" (and has a slightly different flavor to the star version"Illicium verum").

I've made something like this before, but never even thought of adding lemon juice. I'm going to try that. I'll use more basil, a chiffonade, and cook it in instead of the Italian spice mix; can't eat oregano. They're expensive now, but the multi-colored peppers make it so pretty! And they're so good for you, too. I can't wait to cook this. I even have pignolias in the house, so maybe tomorrow. Thanks again, ladies. Another perfect show.

this recipe is great but i have a suggestion... maybe toss the pasta instead of trying to stir that large of an amount because you end up with broken pasta noodles. either toss between two bowls or use large serving spoons to gently lift and drop until mixed thoroughly.

I have to say this is one of my favorite dish. Since I like meat, I added ground beef and cooked that until almost done then cooked the sauce right over it, adding the Veggies later on and the pasta. Taste AMazing!! especially topping shredded Parmesan cheese over it! YUM! Jalapeno spice with it= soooo goood.

That's pretty much the entire flavor of the dish :). You can skip the urad daal and the asafoetida...there are no real substitutes. Tamarind paste is sour so you can use lemon/lime juice. If you can get your hands on red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder and turmeric, you can try those instead of the sambhar powder. Good luck!
