lol, yeah, i haven't used the "unknown" sauces yet, they were left by my predecessor. the cabinets are high for most Japanese, not sure why though.. guess they could stand on a stool. maybe they are for things that are not used very often. brown rice is the only rice in my opinion!!

Did I mention I am a mind reader? ;) About the knives... Since I already had a set (that would cost $500 to replace), I decided to bring them instead of putting in storage. Since you do not have any now, definitely wait until you get here. This is the land of kick ass knives, might be a little pricey, but you will end up with a fantastic set. All I can recommend is save a little money and buy a good set that will last the rest of your life.

This is a good point: I am a big burly guy and part time vegetarian for several reasons: 1) Health benefits of decreasing animal fat and eating more vegetables. Vegetables with every meal. 2) Industrialization of meat (esp beef) IMO is bad on a lot of levels- Deforestation, animal cruelty, contributing to poverty, energy consumption. 3) I can eat more volume of vegetarian food for fewer calories (usually) than I can with animal or highly processed foodstuffs. It's a natural sweetener made from cactus. You could sub another sweetener if you wanted to. Look for agave nectar in grocery or healthfood stores (or online). It's great stuff!

No, being vegan doesn't usually have anything to do with liking the taste of meat or not. There are many reasons to be vegan, from the health benefits to animal rights to the environment. From a health standpoint here, this spread has no cholesterol, is high in omega 3 fatty acids and won't clog your arteries like traditional pate will. Plus, it tastes great!

I feel you are taking what is said above out of context. Yes, I will agree as would anyone with a single brain cell that AIDS is an absolutely devastating disease, I believe what was meant by that comment is that a vegetarian diet can help maintain the ravaging effects of HIV and stave off the possible onset of AIDS. A healthy diet is almost always suggested to patients on ARVs. Just a little food for thought if you will. Also, amend your last line, what about victims of circumstance?

I've been a vegetarian myself for all of my life. No eggs either. But sometimes I get the craving for chicken or fish filet. Once or twice a year perhaps. I'm happy to hear that you are doing well going raw. The dehydrator is a helpful tool when going raw as well as a good blender. I always do raw ice cream, I usually just juice 4 oranges and 4 apples put that in a blender as a base then add a banana, half a pineapple, 2 tbs of extra virgin olive oil and agave nectar to taste about 3 tbs, blend and freeze. Very easy.

Not everybody does. I became vegetarian because I find meat repulsive. What I do like is the herbs and spices, which basically is what makes meat taste good, as hardly anyone would eat it plain. So I put them on other things and fully enjoy my food. Some people go vegetarian for health reasons, my doctor asked me to give up meat for arthritis (which I'd already done, so I gave up dairy and I got better), and it's hard for them to give up the feel and look of meat, so these things are created.

Interesting again, because like I said I've never really thought about it because I don't have a problem with eating animals. I live in the south & we hunt here, wild turkeys, rabbits, deer, squirrel, quail are everywhere. But that is honest comments about missing meat if you're veg. I think mean cruelty to an animal is a sign of emotional problems, but I don't think they "care" if we eat them, and them us, ha. Even if you're vegetarian, you can still miss meat - or depending on the reasoning behind why you're veg, you may like meat, but you don't like how the animals are treated during the process. Therefore, you miss the flavor sometimes. Though I haven't tried tofurky, I've had the Boca "burgers" and the fake chicken foods [etc]. They are very good and often times are just as good as eating real meat, but you don't have the guilt of eating a dead animal.
