I'm saying that individual efforts should be centered around changing big things rather than just individually cutting yourself out. We have more pending issues than that and no, it won't reverse at this point we've hit the point of no-return. Now it's damage control and seeing how we can actually reverse it. And there's also more issues than this, resource problems in the foreseeable future of our species etc.

I can't eat to save the earth. We need to do a damn sight more to save it. I've been looking at stuff and now we have to look at stopping the main causes of damage and constructing something to reverse the damage. This is going to take a world wide effort. Little Carbon Credit be a good Samaritan won't be a lick of beans. We need to get some people to man up and be a REALLY good Samaritan and get some policy changes.

It's probably a quarter cup of rice for a roll. As for becoming vegan, you can start with baby steps. For example, avoid eating meat one day a week, and then gradually increase the number of days per week. Also, going to vegetarian diet as opposed to vegan could be a great intermediate step. Most importantly, don't blame yourself for failing to become vegan overnight. Just know that you are in the right path, and that it requires knowledge and discipline to get there, which takes time. :)

THANK YOU for talking about rinsing rice! I grew up eating a lot of rice because of my ethnic background, and it just amazes me that as few people know how to make rice, even fewer know you need to wash it!! I have eaten plenty of sushi but never have seen anything like this. Looks like something to try!

At my school, the students drink from those little washing areas in the hall or outside, do you know what I'm talking about? I don't know the proper name for them. the spoon trick is a secret! oh and yes, cereal is expensive here.. that box, which is about the average size in the U.S. costs 577yen or about $5.50. However, I would spend about $3 for a slightly smaller box of my healthy cereal back home, so I don't feel too bad buying it here. And, there is no better way to get whole grains and fiber :)

I'm not sure how they taste fried, but I baked mine at 375 for 20 min turning them halfway through and they were delicious! It's a good recipe but I use green chile instead of cayenne pepper with out seeds. Handful of mint leaves. Add flour so it won't break in the oil, add a teaspoon of camoun dip it is sesame seed before you fry.

Hi again... well, I made them again, this time around, I measured the amount of filling I made - which came out to about 30 Tablespoons. So, I divided the dough accordingly. This time, they were much better looking and even more delicious! My husband has a Lebanese woman who comes into where he works - she's a caterer. She brings him Spinach pies in all the time. My husband says that these pies are just as good, if not better, and this woman's pies are delicious too! Thanks so much!

Thanks for the comment. Here's the deal, sometimes you'll end up with left over spinach and sometimes left over dough. It all depends on how much you fill them. I would say it should yield between 15-20, just try to fill them more evenly and maybe a little less :)

Hi there! I made this today and they were delicious. Seeing as I haven't made bread dough in 10 years, they weren't the prettiest to look at, but they were yummy! I do have a question though - how many does this recipe yield? I rolled out 20 balls but seemed to be able to (unevenly) fill 15. I wasn't always open minded about food. One of my best friends is an amazing chef, so he got me into trying everything. I used to hate olives, and he told me to eat them every time I saw them until I liked them. Now I love them and appreciate their unique and very strong flavour. Nothing tastes like an olive, that's why I like them. Hopefully I wasn't coming across as an ass-hat in my previous comments. My brain is going to mush form studying kanji all day every day.

I don't know about meat in the US as I'm not American. The province I came from had awesome meat! I also agree the meals seem well rounded here. In general most western diets are pretty unhealthy, I know mine was when I lived there. Also my wife cooks way healthier meals than I do. The western meals I cook are definitely heavier, but we don't eat them very often.

You are absolutely right, but as you know the meat here is of much higher quality than in the U.S. The problem with American diets is the poor quality meat combined with a lot of simple starch foods like bread, potatoes, pasta, flour, etc and a major lack of fiber and vegetables. (this is in general) In Japan, there is great meat and many great starches and, let's not forget, some of the best veggies in the world. All this with the habit of eating complete meals, makes for a healthy lifestyle.

You can also be perfectly healthy eating meat. Once again look at Japan. People live for ever here (and remain active), and very few of them are vegetarians. If you don't eat burgers every day you will be fine. Having one once in a while won't hurt a person either, assuming they have a proper diet most of the time.

This is where we will differ on this discussion. I am a believer of to each their own on the topic of vegetarianism. But I would say I would have a larger pallet than a vegetarian because I eat all the vegetables and more. Just living in Japan I probably eat a new vegetable I've never heard of every week. I feel like my pallet has been opened up so much since I stopped eating meat. I can appreciate new flavors and textures. Yes, you can use cabbage and a host of other vegetables, as long as you make sure the koftas bind well with the besan. Some vegetables don't have a lot of water content and you may have to add addidtional water. Also, the cooking time will vary. Thanks for your kind words and have fun with this recipe.

Hi me again! Interesting combo of cereals will try this. A bit of history every1- this is not new concept. Back in the 60's or 70's when indian migrants first came to the west, of course you couldn't find many places that sold chevdo or even the normal ingredients like lentils etc. indian people used cereals like cornflakes and rice crispies etc to improvise on making this snack. My aunt still does as it is much healthier and tastier than 1s from the store which we use 4 convenience only.
